Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady Crowns Champion of First-Ever Capital Region Classic Poker Tournament as More then One Thousand Players Drive Prize Pool to more than $270,000

SCHENECTADY, NY — Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady today announced player turnout for the $100,000 Guaranteed Capital Region Classic eclipsed all expectations with 1,095 entries from seven states and Canada generating a prize pool of $272,655. Robert Saladin of Montgomery, NY went home with the Capital Region Classic trophy, as well as $46,034 in winnings for securing the top spot in the five-day tournament, becoming the winner of the richest and largest poker tournament in Capital Region history.

Robert Saladin walked away the tournament champion after defeating Gerald Edwards of Schenectady, NY early Sunday. Edwards’ second place finish was good for $32,258.

The Capital Region Classic was held May 24-28 in the Rivers Casino and Resort Events Center. It drew 1,095 entries, creating a $272,655 prize pool which was divided among the 137 top finishers.

“We had a fantastic turnout for the Capital Region Classic, and we heard a lot of positive feedback from players who have been looking for big poker tournaments in this area for years.
