Poker Night in America set to roll cameras
for first time in Schenectady August 22-25
SCHENECTADY, NY – Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady today announced the return of its wildly popular Capital Region Classic $100,000 guaranteed No Limit Texas Hold’em poker tournament. The big money tournament action returns to the Rivers Casino Event Center from August 23-27.
Registration for the Capital Region Classic opens August 12 at Rivers’ main cashier cage. Complete tournament and hotel details can be found online at riverscasionandresort.com/casino/poker-room.
Pre-qualifying, satellite tournaments begin August 20. Last May, the inaugural Capital Region Classic attracted more than 1,000 players from seven states and Canada and nearly tripled the guaranteed prize pool, making it the richest and largest poker tournament in Capital Region history.
“The poker community came out in big numbers for the inaugural Capital Region Classic, and we’re proud to welcome players back to Rivers for even more poker action,” said Rivers Casino and Resort General Manager Mary Cheeks. “Rivers is a beautiful setting for this big money tournament, and given the excitement we see every day in our poker room, I anticipate a bigger, better and richer tournament.”
Players coming from out of town for the tournament will receive a 25 percent discount on a stay at The Landing Hotel, a newly opened, upscale boutique hotel immediately adjacent to the casino.
The Capital Region Classic will be held over two “Days” of No Limit Texas Hold’em action, with multiple Day One flights being held from August 23 (Wednesday) through August 26 (Saturday). Players can carry their tournament chips over to Day Two (Sunday, August 27) where they’ll have a chance to make it all the way to the final table and vie for a piece of the guaranteed $100,000 prize and the title of Capital Region Classic champion.
Day One buy-ins cost $260 for 25,000 in tournament chips with unlimited re-entries. Players wishing to bypass earlier flights and join the action at Day Two can buy-in for $1,100 for 100,000 in tournament chips. The prize pool will be at least $100,000 – if participation exceeds that figure, the pool will grow accordingly.
Rivers is proud to welcome back noted poker personality Tim Kelliher who will live blog every day, allowing the worldwide poker community to follow along.
Poker Night in America makes its Capital Region Debut
Some of the biggest names in the poker world will already be at Rivers Casino when the Capital Region Classic kicks off. The first ever “Poker Night in America” King of the Hill competition will be held August 22-23 in Van Slyck’s entertainment lounge, just off the Rivers gaming floor.
Founded in 2013, Rush Street Productions brought America’s true pastime, Texas Hold’em Poker, to television screens nationwide on CBS Sports Network with its hit series Poker Night in America. Currently in its fifth season, and with more than 150 episodes produced, Poker Night in America continues to showcase amazing cash game poker each week played by the game’s best players and celebrities.
The four-person, no-limit heads up competition will pit poker greats Phil Hellmuth, Doug Polk, Daniel Cates and Frank Kassela against one another in bracket style play. Each player has put up their own $50,000, making the final match on August 23 a winner-take-all $200,000 cash event!
Poker Night in America will follow up the King of the Hill action with filming of its flagship $25/$50 No-Limit Cash Game at Van Slyck’s entertainment lounge on August 24 and 25. Local players will be competing with some of the biggest pros in the game on a live streamed and televised table.
All the Poker Night in America play will be taped for later airing on CBS Sports Network and fans can follow all the action as it’s filmed at www.twitch.tv/PokerNightTV. All casino guests are welcome to watch the filming of Poker Night in America game play at Van Slyck’s entertainment lounge free of charge.
