New Year, New Hope Celebration For Those Facing Cancer – Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady Joins Forces With the American Cancer Society

Schenectady, NY (January 23, 2020) – During tonight’s New Year, New Hope Celebration at the American Cancer Society HopeClub in Latham, NY cancer survivors and HopeClub supporters were treated to food prepared by volunteers from Rivers Casino & Resort and entertainment from the Shenendehowa Middle School treble choir. This year, Rivers Casino & Resort and their team members will help the American Cancer Society lead the fight against cancer.

“Rivers Casino & Resort is extremely proud to partner with the American Cancer Society and HopeClub to help bring much-needed support to local cancer survivors and their families,” said Rivers Casino & Resort Vice President of Human Resources, Kate McMahon. “The fight against cancer is deeply personal for many Rivers team members, and the work that ACS and HopeClub are doing in providing invaluable resources, education and other services to those battling cancer is absolutely essential. Rivers is wholeheartedly committed to supporting ACS and HopeClub in the years to come.”

These events unite communities to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and provide an opportunity to take action for lifesaving change. Dollars raised allow the American Cancer Society to help people facing the disease today, educate people about how to reduce their risk for cancer or detect it early when it’s the easiest to treat, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.

“Our partnership with Rivers Casino is so much more than support for our fundraising events,” said Joni Richter, Health Systems Manager for the American Cancer Society and Manager of HopeClub. “When casino employees come to our HopeClub with food and other supplies for cancer patients facing the fight of their life, they are bringing hope. When we go to the casino and talk one-on-one with employees and patrons, we are empowering people with information to prevent cancer or find it early. We are connecting people with a loved one facing cancer with the resources they need now.”

Throughout the year, Rivers Casino team members will be supporting the American Cancer Society across their entire scope of work, providing food for cancer survivors attending monthly Bon Appetit events at HopeClub, forming employee teams at events like Relay For Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and sponsoring distinguished events like Red, White and Blue.
